I am surprised Thomson haven't opened up the cruise flights to/from Dubai, to more regional UK airports...
That would be an ideal route for some of the 757's, that sit idol during the winter months.
I think they could also look at selling very competively priced city break holidays to the city with the spare capacity not going on cruises.

Flying on a 757 would be hell and it doesn't go in line with Thomson's long haul standards what have been set very high since the 787 was introduced. I would expect that they will offer the Dubai cruise charter from more UK airports such as EDI and EMA in W17 if it proves a hit in W16 but if they were going to offer more flights, that would mean they might have to base a larger cruise ship in Dubai in W17 or base 2 cruise ships in Dubai in W17 what is very unlikely due to lack of ships.
I think the Dubai cruise charter 787 flights have been made possible due to lots of 787's being free in W17 because the 787-9 gets introduced. I would expect that they might announce more long haul routes next month to fill the 787 schedules so they aren't just parked on the ground all winter. They have the huge masterplan on what destinations they want to fly too so we might see one or two of them announced and hopefully they won't just be LGW only routes. I hope they do a duel launch like they did with Puerto Vallarta in 2014.

I think I recall reading somewhere that as part of Tui group the aircraft will be moved around different parts of the organisation between summer & winter seasons. (One of the benefits of fleet commonality with regards to seating.) So in winter some of the 787s may go to Scandinavia where there is traditionally a larger long-haul programme. Historically the 767s have done this in recent winters. I am sure they won't be sitting on the ground in the UK doing nothing (albeit that the winter flying programme will clearly have more slack in it than summer.)

Thosmon have announced that they will be flying to Sri Lanka from Winter 2016 with many more new routes in the pipeline. I'm also anticipating that Phuket will be offered from MAN with that being announced in a few weeks time.

Could Thomson be switching Orlando Airports?
Thomson are currently showing Orlando-Melbourne (MLB) airport in Florida in their booking engine, but is greyed out...
Just looking on Wikipedia, it handles a small number of flights for the likes of Delta, American Eagle and Porter Airlines, within the USA and Canada. It has a 10,000+ft runway, so looks like it could easily handle the 787...
Could we see Thomson moving away from Orlando International and using Orlando-Melbourne as an alternative, in a similar way to some charter airlines using Orlando-Sanford?

charters at MCO
Not so,,
back in the late 80's and early 90's when ETOPS was first granted to Britannia air2000 Monarch AE KT (then CKT) and later on Flying Colours they only used Orlando MCO
--- along with the Virgin 747 charters as it was first of all (then their flights all became scheduled in 1992 i think) plus BA.
the 757 paved the way into MCO for many charter carriers
757's Tristars and the A300's usually had to tech stop both ways at Bangor, Goose Bay or Gander (Bangor was the main one and customs cleared there too)
some flights back eastbound to GLA and MAN did go home non-stop if the wx was favourable and i think BCAL/BCA charter which became Calair then Novair operated their DC-10-10's there too -also via BGR
In the mid-1990s a new passenger terminal was built at Sanford SFB capable of accommodating jet airliners was built. Charter airlines catering to the heavy British and EU tourist demographic that had previously been using MCO Orlando International Airport were offered greatly reduced landing fees at Sanford, so many carriers relocated their operations.
i think Monarch was the first to use SFB iso MCO IIRC - but someone here may trump me on that lol....
so in the beginning all UK charters used MCO with 767-200ER and 757-200ER A300-600R 747-100/200 and Tristars plus DC-10-30's of CKT ATA, World and Laker (mk2)
FYI
Virgin's first use of their new A340-300's in 1993 was on the MCO flights (schedules by then - not charters)
sadly AE air Europe went bust in 1991 - they were using a leased Tower Air 747 aka fat Freddie and AE's 757's to MCO
they had on-order some new MD-11's for long haul charters which ended up with LTU i think.
BY Britannia sometimes used a non-ER 762 which had to tech stop
some old junk yard 747-100's of Lion and Orion air (affiliated to cargolux) flying for airtours intl went to MCO too iirc
