| The Solution Preferably close Alitalia down. The Italian government has for years been pumping state aid (probably illegally under EU law) into Alitalia. This just skews the market, and gives the employees a sense of invincibility - hence the never ending rounds of strikes by all quarters of the airline. A new smaller, leaner carrier would surely rise phoenix like from the ashes, standing on it's own two feet, like most of the other major European carriers (BA, LH, IB for example). The problem is Italy won't face up to economic realities. |
