Ryanair cutbacks in Dublin....

Just been on the news here that RYR are cutting back the number of A/C based in Dublin from 22 to 18 threatening 500 jobs at the airport.
Ducksy O Leary was on the the TV3 news at 17:30 ranting like an imbecile again and giving the reason for the cutbacks, namely..
  • DAA charges and fees
  • Car park charges in Dublin
  • Car hire charges in Dubln
  • Oh yes! and "The idiot regulator" (his words not mine)
Apparently Ryanair don't like being 'regulated' (for obvious reasons).

Never mentioned the price of oil or the fact that they might have over stretched themselves 'capacity wise', or the fact that they may have alienated the very people who can still afford to travel these days with their appaling approach to customer service.....

Still, he has to blame someone I suppose....

RTÉ News: Ryanair to cut Dublin flights

There might be something else on the RTE TV news at 18:01, but this is all I found at the moment.

Or maybe he is just using Dublin as a scapegoat to cover up some of the rumoured 600 job losses coming their way.

Guess that's why they grew (in terms of passenger numbers) by only 19% in June.

Everyone should by now be able to read between the lines, but evidently not. Ryanair is Teflon-air: nothing sticks to it. I think it's great that it can blame the usual suspects and make itself look half-decent.

Thumbs up

The exact reasons are given by Ryanair :
Ryanair.com - News : Ryanair Announces 18% Schedule Reductions at Dublin for Winter ’08/’09

And it seems Dublin airport couldn't care less. Everybody is happy.

Common decency is relative to every individuals standards. There is little or nothing decent about Ryanair. If there is, pray tell

Post Ryanair slashes winter flights from Dublin

Quote:
Ryanair is to cut its passenger numbers out of Dublin airport by about half a million this winter, Michael O'Leary, the airline's chief executive, announced today. He blamed costs at Dublin airport and the surging price of oil for the cutbacks, which will see 18 Ryanair planes operating from the facility compared with 22 last year and weekly routes cut by an average of 12% on last year.

tony ryan must be turning in his grave.his golden project being scaled down in his own back yard.possibly the money used in the failed and foolish bid to buy aer lingus along with the idiotic failure to hedge the fuel would have been put to better use saving the 500 jobs that mol seems to be falsely soooooo concerned about.
a true sign of a megalomaniac, when time after time he has to blame anyone for his screw ups other than himself.a real psychological flaw in any person.

No fan of MOL myself at all and agree his finger pointing at the DAA is finest Gigginstown horse poo (same playing field no matter how high or low) but this scale back in Dublin is not a surprise.

I think this is one case where it's probably cheaper to keep a few planes on the ground (4 of 22 we are lead to believe) for a few months than fly them around not making money. Inevitable really given fuel prices and the current 'corrections' to the Irish, UK and rest of Europe economies. Not sure anyone could or would have wanted to hedge over the last 12 months - it would take a pretty good crystal ball to see what has happened and an even better one to predict when the prices will come down - which most of the world is betting on just now.

Aer Lingus - well yeep that was a great big gamble that backfired very badly - but is FR still paying for that? Genuine question - was it not a one-off couple of billion on a horse that wouldn't go his way?
