My main point is that would these aircrafts' economics not ideally suit Cork, with it's many "thin" routes?
I've often reckoned one of the best fits for Cork Airport would be Cityjet. The only Irish-based airline with exactly the aircraft the airport needs. But I've never even heard rumours of talks, never mind anything more concrete.

Any white smoke from the CAAAAaaaa & DAAAAaaaa meeting?

Faro in the winter by FR? It must be a Cork thing - they really want to try and do it the hard way, dont they? Hard to see it work in my view though I should like to be proved wrong.

If FR wanted to do more out of Cork why start in the winter - there are just a few routes that would have any chance of doing so during the long dark days of a Cork winter. Yes, maybe, the Canaries, but why not somewhere like Charleroi, Milan Bergamo or Rome CIA, now that EI are dropping the Italian capital, or Berlin though it is very likely no discounts are left in the last two cases and that would hardly be to Ryanair's tastes!

It would be much easier in the summer, of course. The welcome surprise this summer has been how well Bordeaux is working. If Ryanair wanted they could get another month or five or six weeks out of it so maybe next year if they dont have a huff at Cork in the meantime.

Biarritz or Santiago, Pisa, Verona would all work fine in summertime in my view.

Mind you filling the 189 seater is tough at the best of times. In a way it is bizarre that Cork has seen no regional jet activity in the last few years.

I have a feeling that EI p!55ed off some of the crowd in Cork by both dropping Rome and cutting down the winter Geneva to just one day a week. That was a mad move. A shortish flight at around 1hr, 35 mins - it had the bums on seats certainly if not the yield. Beats me why Cork could not have went after Fly Baboo or Swiss. A choice there of ERJ 190s, DHC-8-Q400 or the Swiss RJs. Like, if there are discounts going for an extra Barcelona and Gatwick, well, Geneva would sure deserve it too.

Now, if anyone at Cork had any interest they should snuggle up to FlyBe and to get 'em to start a FlyBe Ireland op with one or two ERJ 175s. Hire a few local cabin crew and you are away with the locals! Such an opportunity in my view.

Fuel efficient 99 seaters - that is the way to go for Cork Airport. An opportunity to get out of the poxy Tuesday, Thursday, Saturday rotations made worse this winter by the Saturday only operation. Have you ever heard such 5h!te!

Faro in the winter by FR?
I think this is more a case of Ryanair looking for what routes it can operate with 6 Faro based aircraft in winter than what new routes are interesting for Cork. I know a few golfers who would certainly use this route...

CAA & DAA have rejected FR plans wich consited of a 75% discount (charges) to existing routes, as well as 100% discount to new routes for a five year-contract.

No word now if FR will continue ACE, AGP & FAO.

Currently they are still showing as operating on website but we will see tomorrow.

If the deal was done afte the 5 years they would still want a 75% discount on the new routes which start during that time just like the current ones.

FR and Cork

This proposal if true was never going to get past the DAA. Similar discounts would have to be given to all other carriers. A non runner.

Quite surprised Cork has not had a winter FAO route. I've used the FAO flight from Shannon in winter when it existed and it had a high level of patronage- quite a few golfers indeed.

Also think Cityjet should give Cork a go. An early morning departure and evening return to Paris for connecting flights and business trips would do well as the daily Aer Lingus service is around midday. They could also try London City airport.

It was, but Jetmagic went bust.

I'm not sure it would be the first route to look for from Cityjet. The London market has been notoriously hard to crack for any new entrant because Aer Lingus and Ryanair tend to react agressively. It is a major profit centre for both airlines.

I'm afraid to burst this bubble but, kavs8 said aer lingus would make an announcement on 28 may ,this was later moved to early june,im still waiting .Wizzair were also to make a major announcement , still no news .Then everyone gets their nickers in a twist [even ttt] over a supposed ryanair expansion. Are we surprised when it turns out to be just an illusion per usual .Kavs8 and his contacts should be taken with buckets of salt .I heard from my contact that a deal has been done betwen the Caa and Air India Haa!

If a deal was made with Air India do you relase Cork Airport CAN'T handle a Boeing 767, Boeing 777 or Boeing 787 and why would AI have a hub in Cork when SNN and DUB have US pre clearance.

As you seem to be so imformed you would also know that AI are planning on running non-stop flights between India and America this winter and they may not have a European Hub but we will find out at the end of Augest.

So I would realy question your contacts.

Our worthy public representatives on the City Council have been squabbling over what Cork Airport should be called. Now call me old fashioned but I'm pretty happy with "Cork Airport", it quite neatly describes where it is and what it is!

Seriously, is this the best our public reps can do with their time!? The country is on it's knees and they are debating whether it should be Terence McSwiney Airport or Jack Lynch Airport. If they wanted to talk about the airport then get moving on extra funding for infrastructure developments like the taxiway or runway extension, or implementing the various road improvements included in the LAP.

I know why they aren't/can't. It's because local government is little more than an ineffectual, powerless talking shop, this just proves it. (Rant over )

The City Council do things like that because they don't have a huge amount else to do. Central government keeps all the power and leaves the local authorities to take care of the trivialities and things they don't want to be blamed for.

I suspect this stems out of the calls to rename Dublin Airport after Lemass.

Personally, I agree that Cork Airport is just fine, but even if it was to be named after someone, why a politician?

Cork City Council might also want to remember that the airport is owned by the DAA and is located in the Cork County Council area. i.e. They have no power in this regard.

Spot on. Further proof (if it were needed) that they are bunch of nitwits.

Good to see a few extra flights. Shame they are going head to head on Malaga. What's the point for goodness sake?

Seeing that Fuerteventura isn't a base, are we losing some rotations to Dublin to allow the flights to operate?
