You say it yourself LTN. Uncharted water buying residential property so CLOSE to a busy runway at times, with as you point out no noise buffer zone.

I doubt this would make a good selling point when such homes are advertised.

I asked is has any planning permission been granted yet, as that is no foregone conclusion I would not have thought.

Blackpool council are aware of the proximity of the noisy runway to the proposed homes, not counting the fact that they still have a small stake in BLK airport.

Doesnt the airport come under Fylde council in terms of land (planning), wheareas Blackpool council WAS the owner, so any housing plans would go to fylde surely, with BLackpool council and now the new owners putting their '2penneth' in, Fylde council like many others have to find land to build all these new homes, I had heard previously that Blackpool council would object, as they are looking for gov't money to help regenerate the inner town areas , new housing etc... and not building houses on the old Pontins site would go some way to help .. who knows, at end of day would seems things are very quiet down at the airport, while Jet2 have been very good, their intrest lies elsewhere now, and BLK will only be a token base, sad times yes, but can only hope the airport can pull something else out of the bag. what that will be remains to be seen.

No, it is not rather good. I have only had the misfortune to fly out of BLK twice, 2nd time was already booked before I had 1st experience. What I passed through was best described as a shack, in comparison to any other airport I have transited. The bar was almost non existent (glossed over by long shot on video) and what shops there were were not staffed, this was around 5pm. The walls were just painted breeze block and the place had a worse atmosphere than Tesco at 3.00am. It was crap.

I don't expect Schiphol or any other airport but BLK is the pits. The only thing it has going for it is rapid transit time due to so few pax.

I know that many want this a/p to grow, most of them on here, but you are going to have to persuade it to smarten itself up a bit.

Excellent video Sandgrown.

al446

Did the terminal have seats to sit on?.

Was the check in desk staffed?

Could you get a pint if you wished?

Did you like the short walk from the terminal to the gates?

Do you need more shops when the a/p flight to Malaga in the Summer is the longest distance flown from BLK, will more shops make your flight faster, more comfy?

Did you manage to board your a/c despite the "Breeze Blocks"?

I like your comparison with Tesco - Never flown from there myself.

In short al446 - BLK is a small regional airport, and what matters is catching a flight on time, more shops will not affect your or my flights.

You mention the word "crap" - Crap is walking a mile to the gates at Palma, or finding yourself waiting at the wrong set of gates at Malaga for the return flight.

I am flying from MAN end of June because no flight available from BLK, and am flying from BLK end of July - I know which experience I will find most tolerable.

Yes impressive.

I wonder how old that video on You Tube was. I am sure it showed Monarch advertising AGP for £29-99 at BLK, and they left BLK at the end of the 2006 summer.

Some old film of Blackpool:
  • Jet2 old livery
  • Thomson being called Thomsonfly
  • Thomson even being at the airport!
  • Aircraft apron parking
  • Monarch advertising!

Ahh - when the airport looked so promising...

Notice the ability to leave comments has been disabled.....

Anyway, Easyjet's timetables fro Summer 2010 are out, and no flights between Liverpool and IBZ (that I'm aware of), and I can't find an EZY from MAN to IBZ either .

So an airline might like to consider filling the gap and flying there from Blackpool?? Can't see Ibiza as a destination being that much more unpopluar now??

Howard and MUFC.

I appreciate its the incorrect forum, but to answer your query, EZY have a 4 x weekly service LPL-IBZ on Tues, Thurs, Fris and Sats during summer 2010 which may be your best option until (or unless) there are any direct services from BLK

Regards

Or TOM, TCX and LS from MAN - dependant on your preferences.

I feel U2 have gone downhill a bit lately. The charter carriers still seem to have a bit more inviting feel. Just a personal opinion anyway!

What the local councils say about building on the former Pontin's site is one thing. Has anyone considered that the CAA might want to have an input into this?
Following the Hansa accident in 1972 (yes, I know it's a long time ago, but accidents still happen), when six of the chalets were destroyed and several others damaged, serious questions were asked about whether alterations to the layout of the site should be made, but they were subsequently rebuilt in the same place. However, I notice from the plans which have been submitted that there is a green open area approximately in line with runway 10, (not to be confused with the one bordering the SSSI), so presumably some consideration has been given to this by the developers.

PSZ

May be the size of the PSZ will be reviewed by the Dft and if so could possibly preclude any re-construction on the relevant part of Pontin's site?

Reply about EZY - as soon as the e-mail came announcing EZY flights to IBZ, I checked Liverpool and found nothing. If there is something there then either I missed it or it has appeared in the meantime. So I booked the MAN-IBZ LS flights again, so EZY missed out for not being quick enough off the mark!
Tried all the other airlines from MAN but they were a mixture of poor times and high prices. Gonna try LS's cabin-only baggage rule, one bag and enough clothing to last a week. Tha means my 6" stilettos will have to stay at home
Pity there's nothing from Blackpool, the flight times last summer were perfect, even if the ADF wasn't, but I suppose if EZY are doing Liverpool-IBZ then that will be sufficient.
Was there ever a chance of EZY flying from Blackpool to anywhere??

Anyone notice how the pound has been apalling recently, although there is some recovery? Bet peeps wait until much later to book their hotel rooms in the hope of a better rate, which means the airlines might be sweating??

On the money howard as I have found to my cost. I booked for AGP for end of July with JET2, and since I booked the airfare has dropped, can only be lack of demand. Booking for 4 pax has hurt my pocket.

I have booked Lanzarote from Man End May/June and thankfully I am not watching that routes airfare tumble.

Probably but without any imminent expansion from JET2, I think BLK have to attract another carrier in order to be a credible international airport - Recent events have shown, BLK can't rely on JET2 for their survival IMO.
