i dont know how fr thought they could be profitable with fight times like that!Id much rather fly with flybe from sou-airport isnt in the middle on nowhere(gla), better service, higher frequencies
Is there any opportunity for easyJet to do a BOH-GLA link? I'm sure the demand is there at good flight times. After all PIK has been BOH's number 1 route in terms of volumes for a number of years now and last year handled a record 128,000 passengers.
I'm surprised FR arn't considering BHD at leat 4 times a week utilising their 0630 empty slot.
Impressive day at Bournemouth first ever visit of a Boeing 747 400 of Corsair F- HSEX on a trooping flight from Budapest
Amazing to see an aircraft of this size land and be handled with such ease , although a few years ago Bournemouth had 6 747 200 lined up on the disused runway at one point !
I know Bournemouth does still handle a private 747 sp it was still a sight to see today and one i hope will be repeated now they know it can be handled
Good going for an airport of Bournemouth s size ! !
That is impressive. How many passengers were handled?
Any pics of the aircraft at the airport?
I also heard that 2 A310's are on their way for military movements. Aswell as two parked up Gulf Air B767-200 but not sure what the reason for that is.
lovejet: The 2 ex-Gulf Air 767's are in for storage before being flown to their final resting ground at Kemble, but the scrapman has been very busy there lately, so Hurn gets to look after the 767's for a few months.
Did the 747 400 take off from Runway 26 ?
I did not think that there was enough of a turning circle this end of the runway for an aircraft of that size only at the 08 end
I was expecting it to be pushed back all the way down the runway to 26 by a tug but in fact it was pushed back from where it was parked by the Basco hanger to the other side of the main runway, waited for a Ryanair to land, then went under it's own power down to 26, turned and took off.
I agree with adfly, some long haul destinations could do very well from Hurn. A weekly or 2x monthly service to Orlando or New York (or both) with an A330 could work, & surely there is a demand considering the number of people in the airport's catchment area. Maybe Virgin Atlantic could provide a transatlantic service with one of their A330's from 2011 And by then, the terminal should be finished & be perfectly capable of taking regular long-haul flights
It was a long old wait for it to arrive (and leave again), and typically the sun went in for both occassions. I don't really have the time to try and figure out why youtube messed up the ratio, as it was uploaded in the correct aspect (16:9).
Thomson Airways already operate long-haul, but only 3 or 4 departures each winter for the fly cruise pax. Monarch and Thomas Cook A330's also operate to New York, Barbados and other caribbean destinations for the fly cruise crowd (and short-break shopping trips) of Bath Travel/Kuoni/P&O. In total around 1 flight every fort-night from BOH in the winter months is a long-haul flight. So plenty room for improvement and additional capacity (once the economy kicks back into shape)
Barbados could definitely be operated weekly from BOH - Bath Travel tried back in 2003, but they were doing so with a B747-200 (440 seats) and that proved too much capacity... A330 or B787 would be ideal.
Good news for Bournemouth today is that Thomson and First Choice will continue to operate a based aircraft for next Summer 2010 with the release of there brochures
New for Bournemouth with Thomson is Sharm el Sheikh ( one destination we have been needing for a while now ! ) Corfu , Monastir , Antalya and Bodrum along with the usual destinations we have had on offer before , although Heraklion , Reus and Faro have stopped these routes should still be carried on with Ryanair , Palmair and Olympic
Not sure if they are using the based 737 300 as i dont know if this has the range for Sharm el Sheikh ?
The new departure terminal should have been finished by next summer so a good start here for some new routes and much needed space
