I hope this link works for you all. This is a video report from BBC South Today on the progress of the new terminal. If the link is broken then just google BBC South Today and follow their link to the news piece on the main news page. Enjoy.
Such a relief to see the development work taking shape at Bournemouth.
Perhaps with the affluence in the catchment area easyJet would be more suited to the airport (than Ryanair) especially with the city airports they serve. Look at the success of Geneva for example.
I believe that Nice, Bergerac, Biaritz, Rome, Vienna, Newcastle, Belfast, Venice, Jersey, Athens & Paris (maybe Amsterdam if they can get better landfing fees) would be viable destinations that would succeed from BOH with easyJet.
Don't worry about photos shamrock7seal, I will be at the airport for a while on Friday with my camera to get some photos, probably be at the Flying Club All is well as long as the aircraft turn up.
I think the flights are for bringing troops back home from the Middle East. But I am not sure if that is the reason, unless they are for bringing students to the UK, similar to the "Spanish Invasion" in April 2007 when 21 extra flights came in
Sparkynufc - great pics i saw them b4 they took them off being too big. hey dont stop posting them, they're fantastic! So nice of you to keep eveyone informed of the development. the new entrance to the terminal - what does it look like from the outside? perhaps next time upload to a website and link from PPRuNe?
This is ridiculous?! What is going on?! That route has sustained BOH at times from 1996 to present. This is very serious for BOH. I can't quite believe it. I wouldn't doubt Ryanair pulling their single based aircraft in light of this.
Over 80,000 handled for May 09 down 18% on LY. This is a slower reduction than April 09. Plus flight reductions reduced by 24.1% but pax down 18% so sounds like load factors have remained steady - although that reduction in flights is probably largely due to the withdrawal of Blue Islands. What is concerning are the new routes by Ryanair. Limoges only handled 1,500 pax compared to the discontinued Nantes that handled 2,500 LY May. Why does Ryanair persist in trying routes from BOH that only a handful of people want rather than the obvious ones that are still low hanging fruit waiting to be picked?
Exeter handled the same pax numbers as BOH in May 09 and Southampton handled double - 160,000. Given EXT's catchment area they are doing very well. BOH should be handling more pax than EXT.
Looking at the schedule for FR this winter, the only flights operated by non based aircraft are Alicante (tues, thurs & sat), Edinburgh (tues, thurs & sat). All other flights are operated by the BOH based aircraft. The 6.30 - 9.50 slot is empty at the moment every morning.
Edinburgh is operated mon, wed, fri & sun by the BOH based aircraft in an early afternoon slot.

I dont know , but I wish they would bring back a German route ...what has been said many times Bmouth is a bucket and spade destinaton airport. ....
Hi,
AGP, ALC, MJV, GRO and PMI all look very strong in terms of flown load factor.
FAO has got off to a reasonable start (65% in April, 68% in May) and REU is going in the right direction (60% in May from 48% in April).
EDI and PIK were both weak (59% and 49% respectively), so perhaps it is understandable that one of them had to go.
DUB seems to be really suffering, with an 8 percentage point drop in flown load factor compared to last May, following a 6 point drop in April and an 8 point drop in March. Unfortunately, the reduction in frequency does look justified.
MRS was flying half full, just as it was last May. However, loads to MRS from BHX and MAN weren't much better.
As has been mentioned above, LIG (44% in May and 37% in April) has not got off to a great start. If it's any consolation, loads on LTN-LIG are even worse. LIG has traditionally been a strong performer from STN, EMA and LPL, so maybe there is hope yet.
Overall, Ryanair's passenger numbers at BOH were down slightly with a virtually identical number of flights.
When Ryanair BOH-PIK flights operated at a customer convenient time they were always busy. I can remember seeing few empty seats. It is only since Ryanair changed the departure times to 0630 or 2220 that passenger numbers went into decline. To get to the airport for a 0630 departure it meant getting up at 0430 to drive to the airport. Arriving at Prestwick at 2340 with little public transport was not convenient and could work out expensive with taxis. No wonder passenger numbers fell. It is more convenient to now fly Glasgow International to Southanpton.
Oceanman is right. Timing is all important. I flew PIK to BOH about a year ago and was surprised at how full the aircraft was both going and returning. But now the timing is hopeless and a PIK BOH flight is not considered. From EDI maybe, but EDI to SOU is an attractive alternative with Flybe, especially now with Ryanair´s booking complications and online check in, and only 15kgs hold luggage I think many like me tend to look for other airlines. Sadly the gloss on Ryanairs cheap flights is coming off!
