An estimated 6,000 passengers predicted today as Futura and others operate up to 10 flights bringing students to study english on top of the airports normal programme.
Bournemouth had fantastic March 2007 - over 84,000 pax went through (12% up). Gerona was busiest route - 9,545 pax. Followed by Geneva - 8,693. Madrid and Shannon picking up nicely.
Bournemouth was not just ahead, but WAY ahead of: Exeter, Doncaster, Teesside, Norwich, Guernsey, Humberside, Inverness, Newquay, Blackpool, Coventry and Isle of Man.
Madrid and Shannon are still struggling, even Pisa isn't doing that well.
Madrid managed 49% fill rate, Shannon was down on 33%, whilst Pisa scraped a 53% fill rate. These rates will have to increase significantly including the yield if these three routes are going to last. Fingers crossed for BOH and these routes.
I visited the international arrivals waiting area last week only to find it was a couple of portocabins glued together. I was thinking to myself that this was probably the worst arrivals waiting area I had ever been to until I stuck my head into the domestic arrivals waiting area. The airport must have spent some time searching skips to find such dilapidated seating. It brings a whole new meaning the phrase low cost airport.
Difference in load factors are due to the way they are measured:
MAD-BOH: 49%-according to data published by CAA, considers passengers actually flying the route.
MAD-BOH: 57%-according to Ryanair, considers just bookins made on the route (passengers paying for their flight).
Compared with other routes out of MAD, BOH is not doing very well (EMA had last month a 69% LF -data from CAA-). I would say the very early departure from MAD (around 6 am) is not helping much, but the same could be said of other routes (Eindhoven or EMA) that are working pretty well.
In any case, it´s a bit too early to make any judgement, as these routes are only 4 months old
Pain in the r's
the arrivals area is awful, for years people have asked for better facilities but the fact is the parent company has not allowed funds for investment until now, all those old buildings will be demolished and replaced with new facilities once the planning permission is finalised etc, this should start early summer so at long last the airport will start to get the facilities it really needs- should have been done years ago but there you are
Ryanair1 - Not sure where you're getting your figures from flyboh.
My figures are the official passengers stats for March as found on the CAA website.
Don't get me wrong here, I want to see all the routes from BOH doing really well, but Ryanair wont keep operating routes if they don't make enough money. Lets hope that the summer drums up more trade for the FR gang.
Re the Arrivals hall. Don't forget that a new arrivals area will be constructed over the coming 12 months. Ground proving works are already under way. The artists impression on the masterplan looks really nice. Can't wait to pass through it when its complete.
Palmair are operating new routes this winter 2007/8 to Monastir and Fuerteventura using the trusty 737 of Palmair
They have also increased services to Malta to almost weekly throughout the winter and upped flights to Faro and Tenerife .This will require the use of 2 of there 737 s on some days in the winter something they haven t done for a few years now .
All good news for a local based holiday company which has been operating from Bournemouth for 50 years now
At some point though i guess they will have to start thinkin about replacing there 737 aircraft to something a bit more environment friendly or rather European Aviation will have to if Palmair continue to use them, or they may have a tie up with Titan planned which seem to have base here now
Ryanair have announced their 8th route from BOH today. It can't be long before they announce a BOH base.
Nantes will be operated by the Madrid plane on a W pattern and run 3 days per week.
A W pattern refers to a route operated by an aircraft from an airport that's not its base.
In this case, the aircraft arrives in from Madrid, then operates the Nantes route from Bournemouth.
MAD-BOH-NTE-BOH-MAD
Hope this clears things up
p.s. BOH will break through the 1 million passengers in 12 months shortly for the first time. 2007 will see over 1.1 million with whats already been announced and next year, well who knows? Quickly catching up with SOU now.
Mrkeyd. Palmair could not afford Titan, thats why they fly the coal burner from Europen, nice and cheap means more money in Bath travels pocket! Titan fly for B.A, Easyjet and corporate vip stuff out of STN etc. I'll eat my hat if they fly Titan
With European taking on a number of MD80-82s, is this to replace the noisey 737 200? or are they expanding with Bournemouth being there main base we have not heard much of this.
One would expect the Palmair operation to take ontwo aircraft to replace there two leased ones.
Will there be requirting for crews?
Interesting times ahead for this company are these MD80-82 just going to replace the 737-200 fleet as there time is running out quickly, as they will be banned fully from operating in Europe, could they be heading a long way down south like Africa like the One Elevens did a number of years go?
The deal about European Aviation taking on MD83 from China last year was actually cancelled and never took place . Somehow this rumour has started again about European taking 5 of these aircraft on , unfortunatly it looks again like this is not going to happen .
Indeed the aircraft have been registered to " Phoenix Aircraft Leasing " and are on the UK data base , presently the aircraft are in Bucharest . However it is not European who are taking them on
Shame though , who knows what European and Palmair will do about replacement aircraft and as we all know the 737 are due to retire sooner rather than later
The Gambia Experience have pulled this winters Banjul flights.
Thomson Ski have re-introduced weekly ski flights to Chambery.
The airports final masterplan is now available for download from the website and work should start this year on a new, purpose built arrivals hall, roughly where the Jet2 buildings are. The departures will be extended and retail outlets increased. The porta-cabins are all going and the existing brick terminal will be restyled and clad in what looks like a metal effect exterior. The 'artists impression' looks really nice. Fingers crossed.
So is the new base for RyanAir at Bristol announced today a blow for Bournemouth being a base in the future or is it in still in the FR masterplan to have bases at BRS and BOH?
Ryanair are operating routes from BRS that wouldn't work from BOH and they are operating routes from BOH that make sense only from BOH - possibly pulling people down from BRS/Wales and west country too. The two should be complimentary - remember that BRS can cater for wales and Ryanair are anti Cardiff. BOH will appeal to southampton residents/isle of whight and some west country... ryanair know what they're doing.
