Dornier ex Venezuelan Navy! Are they planning to do maritime surveillance during each trip?

When a European airline has to turn to an ex Venezuelan navy plane you know there are problems.

I think you will find that the 3rd Dornier is not ex Venezuelan Navy but is a new aircraft which was to have been delivered to the Venezuelan Navy but their order was cancelled.

Even if it was ex Venezualan Navy, it may well prove to be a low-hours and well maintained aircraft of higher standard than several civilian examples! I seem to recall that quite a few of the Heralds which served the islands well for many years in the hands of Air UK were ex Malaysian Air Force?

Ayline is correct; the new-build aircraft has been ordered (wording of the press release currently being finalised) and is due for delivery from RUAG around Christmas after a cancelled order from a prior customer. It will not have previously flown for another operator. G-SAYE is ready to go pending some final paperwork; CS-TGG has been painted and returns to Guernsey today.

, with respect, you should perhaps do some research on the backgrounds of those managing Aurigny. It would suggest that at worst they aren't 'total idiots' and at best have a few more years in aviation than many on this forum. They aren't silly. Yes - Tri replacement has all gone on for far longer than it should have, but the extent to which Aurigny has been in control of funding cuts to the Portuguese INAC - the cause of the current delay - is pretty limited. You refer to a 'problem', but the fact of the matter (borne out in the punctuality stats) is that routes served by the Tri fleet are not experiencing (and did not during 2014) levels of delays or cancellations higher than the network average, and that EU OPS is in general far more forgiving to D228 operations anyway (there is now emergency exit lighting in the Tris too...).

Aero mad, I agree with most of what you say, except where you mention the level of delays / cancellations.

From my experience, and I keep a close eye on what's happening, the Tri' tech delays have been too numerous for me to write down. If you were at the meeting last week the audience clearly didn't agree with Aurigny's take on it either. I think its more like 70% and was down to 55% over Easter and Whitsun week.

I can only guess that by issuing you with a new boarding card for a new time and different flight number gets round reporting long delays ! The original flight just disappears off the departure screen.

The dwindling number of Tris' have been hammered so reliability is going to be poor.

Roll on the Dorniers, we've waited long enough.

I am on Alderney at present and for the second time in a week all I can see is thick fog. Whilst some delays are undoubtedly aircraft tech related many (most?) are inevitably weather related.

Airlines (like any reasonably sized business) have good and bad 'departments'. The Operations part of GR seems to me to be far pretty good (and far above any other airline I have ever encountered). One day last week there was no flying into/ex ACI until 3pm but by mobilising all available aircraft (and pilots) they had recovered the situation by the evening. Well done guys!

The doubt I have is whether a fleet of (eventually) 3 Dorniers will enable GR to cope with bad weather delays.

Whether the Dorniers will prove to be more reliable (and cost effective) than the Trislanders remains to be seen; let us keep an open mind on these and other issues.

Angel EMB 195 Emergency last week

Could someone in the know at the airport or Aurigny post what went on with the "full emergency" called a few days ago?

Any idea why there is a flight operating into SOU from Dinard tonight? Looks like it then leaves for GCI.

Many years ago Aurigny did offer a short lived route from SOU to Dinard along with Cherbourg, I personally would have thought a direct summer service to Dinard would work from SOU a couple of times a week at least.
