Whichever aircraft Aer Arann choose, it must have the ability to operate off Galway's runway with a full load of pax to Luton.
On many occasions over the last few months the GWY/LTN flight has needed a fuel stop at either NOC or DUB.
Galway and Waterford, at the moment have potential for Aer Arann to expand services without the Low Cost jet operators muscling in when Arann have developed a route.
Anyone care to compare the Dash 8-400 to the ATR72-500 for us ??
Q400 - higher, faster, crankier
Q400 is a high speed turboprop in the same class as Saab 2000. Will do 360 knots with their PW150 engines as opposed to the ATRs 277 or so. The Q300 (ATR42 size) has PW120 series engines and so the cruise speed is more or less ATR-ish.
The Q400 variant has been selling slowly - QF have taken some recently, but no sign of Air Canada trading in any Q100/200/300s yet which would be a vote of confidence.
ATR have been doing well sales wise. They claim payload/range improvements over the -200 and a quieter cabin with bigger bins. I also seem to recall something about icing performance in the -200 but can't swear to it. Anyway lots of stuff on the website.
I expect it would take a hell of a deal to make RE move given the commonality with the -200s and the variation within the Q series.
There is no doubt the 72-500 will be the winner. The interest in the Q400 is purely to put ATR under pressure and get them as cheap as possible. Rumours within the company say that the orders for the first 2 -500 should already be in place for delivery in the beginning of next year. The tas speed on the -500 is pretty much the same as the old -200 but RE will benefit for the improved range on the -500, as the endurance is about 40 mins better/longer.
Has anyone heard what's happening with CWL - DUB & BHD? - still no schedules or fares published despite being promised at beginning of January - with Air Wales definitely starting CWL - BHD next month, looks as if Aer Arann will pull this one before it gets off the ground!

As I have posted before there was no press release from CIAL about this , which is in itself unusual they are usually very quick off the mark to release news of new operators routes etc, nor does anyone I have spoken to seem to know anything about this happening at CIAL. It may of course still happen but you do wonder how much of it was posturing by Aer Arran.
Nope, nothing mentioned at Cardiff about whats going on. According to Aer Arann website the service will start 27th March, that announcement was made back in December and has been the last anyone has heard of it!
However rumours still going round of Air Wales/Aer Arann merger, only as a result of the similarities in routes being announced.

POC is being hounded by MOL of Ryanair. So he is hounding PMK. POC and Aer Arann decides on a whim Lets fly to Cardiff - that will get at PMK. Never mind the yield - feel the bile.

What will PMKs position be if Aer Arran and and Air Wales merge? And who is MOL? Can't see it happening myself.

But you still haven't answered the question. Where does this merger leave PMK?
