BHX more new routes

There seems to be almost daily announcements lately regarding new routes from BHX, Duo are to launch three new routes from the Winter timetable (Helsinki, Cologne & Oslo)

They are however dropping Milan to accomodate these new services, BA will start both Milan and Stuttgart this Winter.

Yesterday Ryanair annouced Murcia and Girona (Barcelona) and additional Dublin services to where MyTravelLite are also flying to from 30.9.03 as well as new daily services to Tenerife and Almeria.

Air Slovakia look set to start their new service to Bratislava as early as tomorrow, in November Helios will start a weekly service to Cyprus and Flyjet will commence a weekly flight to Amritsar.

Flybe are adding a daily Salzburg to their portfolio of BHX destinations.

Re BA picking up Milan Flights...do you know if is means a resumption of services to LIN or are they sticking with Maersk's MXP destination?

Can't get into LIN from BHX, it's not an important enough route (think it's only capital cities and FRA) according to the rules of getting LIN slots.

Hi,

BA are picking up some of the ex. routes that were operated by Maersk Air.

Just to clarify a few points:

BA are starting to operate BHX-MXP but this route has been dying off from Birmingham over the past few months so they are welcome to it.

The Maersk BHX-STR has historically been a long standing route at Birmingham and duo will continue to operate on this route - twice daily. After a good franchise relationship for many years BA have now decided to compete with duo on the STR route - thats gratitude for you.

I wouldn't say that BA were picking up the 'ex routes' operated by Maersk because Maersk/duo actually owned the route and not BA.

duo have chosen to operate the following routes from Birmingham:

Berlin
Cologne
Copenhagen
Geneva
Gothenburg
Helsinki
Lyon
Nice
Oslo
Stockholm
Stuttgart
Vienna

and the following routes from Edinburgh:

Milan
Zurich
Oslo
Geneva

Good luck to Duo on the new BHX route. There are 7 or so daily flights from nearby DUS, nut CGN was never able to support a BHX service. Augsburg Airways tried the route for a short time in the mid 1990s with a DH8-100 but it was a complete failure.

Kooper

From what I heard, Scotland does not have a Capital City. EDI-LIN slot request refused so quick the Mafia could not have been asked.
And a route launched by the 'Scottish First Minister'!
I just can't wait to expand out of CWL or AZ to start LIN-LBA/NCL/BHX/SOU/BOH.

Only UK based Airlines into LHR, or Capital City pairs, now there's a good idea.
