Expat station manager killed in Lagos, Nigeria

Has anyone heard a rumour of an Argentinian National expat in Lagos working for one of the international airlines, being followed from the airport and killed by gunmen while on his way home?
This is supposed to have taken place in december 07.Any info?

Rani 15th Jan 2008 13:51

I believe he worked for IBERIA. God bless his soul :hmm:

AVSEC 16th Jan 2008 10:24

ooooohh.Poor chap.
Be safe out there guys and get home safely.
May his soul rest in peace.

spice 16th Jan 2008 11:06

That's very disconcerting, we have an aircraft and two sets of crews leaving for a long term contract in Lagos on Friday .....

J'Mac 16th Jan 2008 11:17

No one said if the story was true or not. Well I did not hear any thing like that, AVSEC, Where did you hear that story.

AVSEC 16th Jan 2008 17:23

business associates just back in from LOS who are involved in setting up charter flights for organization involved with christian pilgrimage flights.

hotmj43 17th Jan 2008 03:39

Avsec

Avsec Could you make a clarification here, are you suggesting that the Expart station manger was followed and killed because he was a station manager,as some one has now pointed out that he worked for iberia Airlines,
Or are you pointing out,the scam of Robbers following passengers from the airport and robbing them, during the xmas period.
i hold the view that what you have related should be put in its proper context.........if you have further information.
A terrible crime Murder, but sadly this has been going on for years, out of Lagos airport, hence all the armed Police, that escort flight crews and exparts as well as Nigerians,to their hotels and homes,Xmas is an ALERT PERIOD CODE RED.

Just wanted confirmation on rumour heard from a business associate from this forum, that is all.

surely not 17th Jan 2008 05:01

Hey hotmj43 you shouldn't be rising to AVSECs bait............. that's my job!!!!

It's historic on here now that AVSEC will paint half a picture, and the painting will have many false brush strokes in it.

Now AVSEC I have always thought that with a pprune name like yours that you might have something to do with aviation security. You must be very low down the ranks if you cannot use contacts in the security departments of airlines and FAAN to get some accurate information on this.

I thought your company was associated with advising for Arik on security matters??

Hmmm I think I'd review that contract if I was Arik :}

hotmj43 17th Jan 2008 05:14

Surelyn Not,
i stand aside with Pleasure, while u take the security expert on !!!!

AVSEC 17th Jan 2008 05:15

surely not, there was no intention to upset anyone and I have no relationship with arik air.Just trying to confirm a rumour.
I am confused as rani says he or she is aware, and you and hotjm3 are not aware.
This forum has a proud history of alerting the aviation community as to unfortunate incidents or rumours of incidents that have occurred.
I will take it that it cannot be confirmed.Thank you.

hotmj43 17th Jan 2008 05:35

Avsec,
i would take the Murder of an international Airlines station managers death something that would be all over the press, and great out cry from other international Airlines that fly into Nigeria.......having heard nothing from that quarter.
It might be that a citizen of Argentina was murdered, but is not the Iberia station manger.......i stand corrected if it turns out other wise.
The rumour of ones death....is not to be taken lightly, especially in open debate, more so when it was started on a aviation chat forum.

hotmj43 17th Jan 2008 05:40

Rani,
can you elaborate on this murder of the station manager......Iberia,so this discusstion can be put to rest.Since for now you are the only one that has confirmed this,on prune.

AVSEC 17th Jan 2008 05:43

hotmj43 please take note that no name nor airlines name was mentioned by me as I do not have that information.
I was hopeful that if the rumour was confirmed i would get that information from this forum so as to be careful when visiting that country.
I will be more careful trying to get such information in the future as it upsets you and surely not so much.

surely not 17th Jan 2008 06:07

fer fecks sake AVSEC, everyone automatically takes care when travelling to West Africa!!

I am sure that in previous posts you have said that you work(ed) in Nigeria and recently as well? Yet recently you have seemed very distant from the place and almost as if you'd never set foot there!

NDB17 17th Jan 2008 06:14

It's all bazookas, no station manager was killed in los. I'm in contact with a friend at the spanish embassy, still waiting on the confirmation of any spanish or argentine being killed.
Rani & Avsec were did you get your info?

MD12 17th Jan 2008 07:31

This was on the news:

"Lagos - Unidentified gunmen shot dead overnight the local station manager for Spanish flag carrier Iberia as he returned home from work at Lagos airport, diplomatic and air industry officials said.
The Argentinian, who was in his 40s, was on his way back from Murtala Mohamed airport late on Thursday with his driver and an armed police guard when unidentified gunmen tried to hold up his vehicle, the officials said.

The driver refused to stop and the assailants opened fire with a machine gun, injuring him and killing Iberia's local director with a bullet to the head, they said."

And this happened Dec 28-29. Main airlines operating to Lagos are well aware of this, as they were following the case from the very beginning through their respectives Security Departments.

THe fact that you donīt know something does not make it unreal.

hotmj43 17th Jan 2008 08:46

AVSEC,
MD12 has just posted that on the news.......the story was carried. The question i ask what station, kindly be more specific . MD12 if you actually heard the news what channel etc.
As i stated the fact that i have NOT heard about it, does not mean it did not occur....
Also feel free to ask whatever questions you like on the forum,my likes and dislikes should not be a consideration......i respond as i deem fit.
What does ticks me off,is the insult of Naija, that i will not sit quiet about:=
And if a story about Naija is true,i will make my contribution as well.
Murder is a crime, THE WORLD OVER,BE IT IN NIGERIA UK,or Eskimo land.
:ok:

Revnetwork 17th Jan 2008 08:56

Hi Guys,

I heard about this case as well and it happened closer to 28-29DEC as stated. One newspaper said it was an attempted armed robbery, another hinted that he had previously been threatened over a business deal gone wrong.
RIP

surely not 17th Jan 2008 09:33

Ok ...................... here we go..................... deep breath.....................

Well done AVSEC for bringing onto the forum something serious that did happen and had remained uncommented on here.

I still wonder why you couldn't have gained more info from your security contacts but that is a small point.

Revnetwork and MD12 do you know from the articles where the attack took place and time of day/night? Which paper reported the attack cos I have links to This Day on my laptop at home?
