Hey Sheep,

Think you need the JAR to fly for Zimex...

And have your logbooks handy, they want TOTAL LANDINGS in one of their columns on their app...

Good Luck

If I understood correctly, you only need to have your JAA if you are going to fly one of their a/c under a JAA registration. I believe it's Angola where one can get away with an ICAO licence. (Don't quote me but I think they have the a/c's registered under the Angolan authorities). Granted that is only one contract, but it's at least that, an opportunity. Of course that all depends on whether or not one wants to and can handle being in Angola, but that's another issue. ;-) I'll see if I can get in touch with a buddy for more specific details.

Angola is hard work but a lot of fun and the flying is good!

Zimex operate twin otters on contract to Sonangol - the national oil company. Mostly on coastal routes although since the end of the war I have heard them inland as well. They are on the Angolan register (D2-) and I would imagine Zimex will organise a validation for you.

I think the crews are well looked after - important in Luanda
I can try to put you in touch with somebody over there if you want.

The website for Rossair is www.rossair.co.za

Cheers for now

Ok, like I said I would, I checked with my buddy and yes it is Angola where you can fly for Zimex on a Canadian license. Contract is 2 months in and 1 month out. You fly with local coey's who can't fly staight and level, veering off of that magic majenta line on the GPS is not an option and landing a STOL a/c on 6000+ feet of pavement is unachievable, but hell, it's suppose to be an adventure, right??? Well that's exactly what is sounds like it is. As for the work visa and paperwork, that seems to take forever but it does come eventually and there is rumor that all pilots might have to have a JAA license, but again, that might just be for the a/c's that are registered HB. OH YA, don't wear a nice watch or nice sunglasses because those will quickly disappear even if it means taking your hand with the watch. There must be some positive stuff about flying down there??? However no one has told me any of those stories!! Anyhow, hope it helps.

Guts...

Burundi blurrrrdy marvelous. Beer cheap and NGO skatties willing....

Rossair operates two twotters there as well as one in Kenya out of Loki and a whole herd (group, gaggle, shoal?) in Algeria. Heard Algeria not so great though with living conditions only a cockroach could love but management not too bothered by that. Try to stick to the humanitarian stuff in Loki and Buj and you should be fine. If you're lucky you may even get a DC3TP rating in Loki.

Good luck...
