N Reg A/C in Kenya needed for rent

I am going to be visiting Kenya over the Christmas period for one month and would like to rent a N registered plane from December 15th through January 15th.

Ideally would prefer a performance single such as Cessna 206 however twin would be acceptable such as Cessna 310.

Self fly, pilot with 10k hours.

You may be lucky to find one. Many years ago Kenya cynically forced all commercial aircraft operating from the country (a great many on vital international humanitarian and aid work) to re register as Kenyan, as well as some non commercial aircraft (corporate/private) that they incorrectly chose to view as commercial. This was done, I believe, to allow them to be heavily taxed. Nice!

I don't think there will be (m)any N reg aircraft in Kenya at all, let alone for hire.

Hope I'm wrong though.

I think Wageslave is about right... There are very few N registered aircraft in Kenya, and even fewer that are available for self-fly hire. In fact I don't think I can think of a single one that would be available for hire. The only N registered aircraft are those newly imported/waiting for local registration or those being kept N registered for tactical reasons.

I really doubt that you will find anything for hire - self-fly isn't a big thing in Kenya. Mostly because of local regulations over licences, but also a lack of trust in who might hire your aircraft.

Your best bet if there is anyway to do a self-fly hire is to contact the AeroClub of East Africa at Wilson airport. They are best placed to advise, and would also know who amongst their members might be able to help...

Good luck.

Most likely the only solution is to rent an aircraft with pilot and carry him around with you.. Nairobi Wilson has various operators and is the place to start. And finish. There's nowhere else to look.

Or get a Kenya PPL endorsement . Takes a few days but ask Wellington at the Aero Club , if you are a member . Worth joining . Then you can rent a 172 , 182 , or 206 from Colin Davies . He is situated between the clubhouse and the hangar .

Single or Twin for rent in Kenya

Many thanks to all those of your who have been kind enough to reply to my post requesting a N Registered plane for rent in Kenya. One of us in the party does hold a Kenya PPL and would be fine to rent a Kenya plane. We have talked to some of the folks at Wilson but we are running into difficulty.

If anybody knows of somebody who has a light twin or single but want something with reasonable performance.

I am looking to rent a plane for about one month over the Christmas period Dec 18th - Jan 18th.

Pilot is a Kenya PPL holder with 10k hours.

As I said just above , African Sky Charters , but only fixed gear singles Cessnas so no high performance . You will find it very hard to find a twin or fast single for hire , the licensing requirements are very strict . But if you are planning bush flying , what's wrong with a 182 or 206 ?

Tomonsline,

I would have thought your partner with 10K Kenyan PPL hours would have all the contacts necessary to know where to find someone willing to hire their aircraft. He must have trained or flown at one of the flight schools, so they would know him well... just a thought.

Flying Schools are a good place to start off.

ie. Nairobi Flight Training do allow their students to go off with the aircraft and do night stops and the likes.

My PPL isn't current , I would have taken care of the technicalities for you.

All the best though, when you around you can always holla I help you navigate the complicated Kenyan Aviation laws.

Send me an email on [email protected] and I should be able to assist you in getting the aircraft.
