Keys Aviation helicopter crash
Nassari, an MP for northern Tanzania’s Arumeru East Constituency, and other three people including a pilot have been hospitalized at the Arusha Lutheran Medical Center (ALMC) for observation and treatment.Arusha Regional Police Commander Liberatus Sabas confirmed the accident, saying it happened on Tuesday evening in Leguruki village, when the MP was doing his political activities.
“We are still investing the cause of the rare chopper accident in this area, though earlier information show that bad weather contributed to the crash,” the police chief said.
Speaking from his hospital bed at ALMC, Nassari said the accident was caused by bad weather in an area which is close to Mount Meru.
Nassari said the accident happened soon after taking off from Leguruki village where he had a public meeting.
“Few minutes after taking off for another village, weather changed in the area and we’re surprised to see our chopper crashed. But, thanks God it didn’t catch fire,” the MP said.
The crashed chopper is owned by Moshi-based Key Aviation Company.
Dr. Paul Kisanga, Acting Director of ALMC, said that the survivors were progressing well and were expected to be discharged soon. Already happened over a week ago. All discharged from hospital after two days, couple bruises and few cracked ribs, but no one seriously injured. Lucky escape for everyone. But the helicopter. That is a write off.
