Understandably, its a murky topic but I know many expats flying in Kenya commercially. It all sums up nicely to who you know and "kitu kidogo" on the immigration bureaucracy. If you want it bad enough, its possible, though just sitting on a freshly cooked cpl won't get you anything in this part of the world without a little hussle.

Most new local pilots have relatively low time, the days of starting with a C172/206 are long gone. Only a few operating.
Almost all operators are using C208, of which for obvious reasons is not for a low timer to command.

I know of a couple of expat pilots that have been hired over the past couple of months. Not really fresh cpl, one had 500 hrs tt.

If you have time on a van and +1000tt you will find a job right away.

I haven't heard of any expat pilot being hired off a fresh com, but I'm a believer of right place right time!

But if you land the job it will take a long time to find yourself in the left on the van. I presume that's what everyone seeks here, the caravan, it would help you a great deal if you arrived with a rating. That's a big deal to get the job I reckon and it also means that they will put you on the van almost right away. (obviously depends on the company) If you arrive without a rating the company may keep you on their pistons ,prob 206, for a long while. Not ideal if you thought you where finished flying the 'dream machine'.

It all depends on the company.

They are definitely hiring expats for Caravan positions.

I met 3 guys (yesterday) who went for their CPL conversion exam results, one told me has 200 hrs.
