Daladaladriver,
I was fortunate to get onto a caravan with only 300tt. And I have 210 hours p1 on it, ie sitting left seat and solo; so it can be done. Unfortunately for me the African operators do take a suspicious view of the rare cases like mine. I would love to come back to Africa and fly in Tanzania. I found the 206 a little trickier to handle than the van anyway IMHO.

Where is best to go to get an African Bush Pilot Job?
Hello! I am writing this thread to hopefully get some up to date advice on the best place to go in Africa to get a bush flying job and also which flying school would be best to become rated on a Cessna Caravan or other light bush aircraft.
I'm 23, have 310 hours and have a JAA ATPL-F which I quite fancy going to see the world with!
Any advice or information as the best place to go and anyone out in Africa who I could speak to at the moment would be brilliant!
Thanks for your time.

Not to be that "guy", but when you go out looking for jobs in the bush, I would say I have your Commercial Pilots License with ATPL subject's passed as opposed to a frozen ATPL.

First place I would go would be reading all the info on here, reading the bush guide (though its a little dated/off), then asking questions on this site
Don't waist your money getting "typed" on the van, no one is going to hire you into a van with 300hrs, get some 206 or 210 time.
And what the other dude said about putting CPL vs ATP

Feel free to flame me if I got this wrong but wouldn't a frozen ATPL out weigh a CPL with ATPL subjects passed? Or is it I am so far out of touch a CPL has more clout than a F ATPL?

It is a CPL with ATPL subjects passed.
Unless you can quote a CAA document anywhere that calls it a "frozen ATPL".

"There is no such thing as a frozen ATPL."
There used to be just such a thing at the UK CAA. They had a document referred to a frozen ATPL. This was a licence to prove you had everything required for an ATPL until a total of 1500 TT was achieved, then it was unfrozen, IIRC. Now that the JAA?EASA have got a hold of the thing anything could be the case. Maybe a computer ATPL for all I know.

Frozen ATPL
Coming from FAA land, my understanding is that a frozen ATPL is just a CPL with ATPL subjects passed. A F-atpl is flight school marketing talk for CPL + IR + ATPL theory subjects passed. You only have a CPL.
Best to list it as a CPL; as that is exactly what it is in all countries that do not have the eurocentric fATPL. Try converting your JAA f-ATPL to a TC, FAA or CASA f-ATPL (insert most other national aviation authorities) and see how that goes.
All I'm saying, is that it just may rub an operator the wrong way, and if he is one of many candidates applying, why do that.

Just put what it says across your pilots license.
And no, a CPL with "frozen ATPL" isn't worth more then a CPL, as its still just a CPL, what worth more "$2" or "two dollars"

f-ATPL is great if you are going the airline route... pay for your 737 TR, fly for Ryan Air... get your 500 multi-crew hours, unfreeze your ATPL... fly airliners forever.
What BigD is getting at is that African bush flying operators aren't looking for f-ATPL pilots... they are looking for smart CPLers that don't give two about flying an airliner any time soon... so forget about your special f-ATPL license if you want to fly the small stuff in Africa since you won't be unfreezing it for a while if you head down here.
