Looking at extending my tour around Africa to include Angola and Uganda.
Where are the main aviation hubs in this country? Who are the big movers and shakers there? Who are the companies to avoid at all costs?
Now I realise these countries pasts. And I am prepared to face that. What I want is hard facts on the aviation side of this country.
I have heard times are changing there. Slowly for the better.
Ok, Didnt realise you wanted all that info. Just looking for any small single/twin piston work. Turbine would be a great bonus!
Got 500hrs, 100 twin, IFR with all the bells and whistles.
CPL (A) (NZ and AUS)
NZ Passport
Bit of IFR time
BE-76, C-152, C-172, PA-38, PA-28 181
Uhhh not sure what else I can give ya.
Mate,
I'm a fellow kiwi.
Forget about Angola, spent plenty of time there and no good can be had! There is no light singles/twins and you won't get a look with your qualifications on the big stuff.
Your best bet is Namibia or Botswana?
Yup, thats what I am planning on doing already. Just want to keep my options open and want to know whats out there.
Is there any help you can give me with Uganda? Had to find information out there about that country.
I don't want to discourage you but I don't think Uganda really is an option for you at this time.
However, just if you're interested to see what is here: Air Uganda - flying international to Sudan, Kenya and Tz. Flying MD8's EagleAir - domestic airline also flying into Congo/Sudan. L410's, a C206 and a PA34 KFTC - charter operator. C208's, Islander, C210's, C206's, C172's (flight school) Ndege Yuu Africa - charter operator. PC12 and a Fuji. MAF - Christian humanitarian organization. Flying C208's, C210, C206
This are all the operators in Uganda and need experience to get in IF any need of pilots.
Forget about MAF (Missionary Aviation Fellowship). They are christian fundamentalists. I had a talk with them a couple of years ago in Nairobi, when I was looking for a job.
You need to have a special training in various bible-related courses, and the idea is that you are a missionary in the first place, who also happens to hold a CPL/IFR. Your interview is primarily about your dedication to spreading the christian faith, and your way of life will be assessed accordingly.
Unless you're really into that sort of thing, forget it.
When I was last in Huambo (Movcon for Dyncorp) there was plenty of Jet A1, unfortunately not for the UN we had to truck it in from the coast. I would think now that with the improvements, post war, that there will be plenty, if you PM Veeps he may be able to give you some costings.
