Hi I studied in australia. some good schools in queensland, but basically spend all the money getting student visa, then for the course, and the conversation to Kenyan CPL is quite expensive. Tough decisions

Talking KQ Ab Initio pilot training program

Hey guys,

KQ has just advertised for the next intake for the AB Initio pilot programme, if you didn't make it last time, then you have another chance....

For those who did make it, how are things in South Africa?

All the best!!!

Did you apply, by the way? I ask as I did not get a confirmation email saying my application has been submitted..if you did apply, i wish you all the best in the process!

God Bless!

Hi guys, I too applied for the KQ training and this is my first time out of school. I scored all As in their requirements and I just want more information about the whole thing. This may be premature but its my first time to try to find a career path, does PILOTING pay much? like ghow much....Is it a career you can develop yourself in?

@YoungKenyan:

Good to hear you too applied for the scheme! all the best to you!

As for your questions, a career as a pilot is indeed rewarding. However, it is a job that requires great commitment and more so, passion. I say this because of the levels of concentration needed during training, and during a flight too.

In terms of career progression, there is a path, as with most professions. the highest you can get to as a pilot would be the left hand seat i.e/ captain, which would depend on the number of hours you have logged and other factors..

Im hoping this answered your questions in brief..however, if you're unsure, i would suggest you read up as much as you can on the other careers that you might have in mind too, as im assuming from your post that you're a little bit unsure..all the best buddy

Hallo young Kenyan as mentioned above being a pilot takes alot of commitment and not only but health too..My engineering trainers at the hangar usually call pilots drivers in the air; the only thing that distinguishes them is the pay ceck they carry home and the color and size of their drivers' licences..But piloting is recommended only if u are sure that u will keep your eyes off the bottle(do check out the recommended alcohol levels in pilots' blood system), and most of all keep a healthy body all the rest of your remaining part of life..the question is that what if u don't and something ends up happening causing u to loose your licence..what do u do?..in short u r still a young fellow and gauging by the A's u mention above i don't see why u cant acquire a position in a well accredited university any where in the world..But all in all the decision is all yours..if u want to go chasing and or running away from thunderstorms then make the choice..

2009-10 Recruitment

Hi People

I am also new to this process and hope all the best to those who are applying this time round.

In the spirit of full disclosure and for the original purpose of this thread( to document the ab inito recruitment regime for KQ) I am stating all my communication and all things that I have done.

In this early stage this is what I have done:

1. Registration on the i-recruit portal on the KQ careers page
2. Before submitting any applications, I filled in all the personal info and the qualifications.
I put in my ID No. in the special pass tab.
I put in my K.C.S.E. results into the additional qualifications. I put in all the required subjects, and their respective grades into the adjacent tab.
3. Lastly I finally applied for the ab initio program, after getting the job from the available jobs.

So far this is the response that I have gotten:
- I received an automated reply from the i-recruit portal about 24 hours or so after submission

I hope this will prove helpful to those who are new to the process. I would also highly appreciate any abnormalities that those who have completed the process find in my method.

Kila La Heri

Henry

Greetings all! 43 Air School is a great place to train. We've so far got our PPL's and night ratings. CPL ground school begins in January and thereafter the instrument rating and our CPL tests.
Kenya Airways have again opened applications for yet another ab initio intake. All who have queries should just look back at the beginning of this thread. All the best!

Thanks guys for the advice. I will give it a try.

Best.

Michelle, am 18 too and the process was not very difficult. I think your problem maybe the ID bit, just put the number in the Special Pass category.

@Nightfire: I suppose you could've used a more polite way to have conveyed your point, seeing that the girl who put up her post is only 18, and is possibly new to the forum. Lets try keep our choice of words more diplomatic, and polite.

That being said, I do agree that your point is valid, as was said earlier in the thread, that this is a professional forum, one where a future employer might be reading your posts, and text-speak may not be the most appropriate way to convey your point.
