A Piper PA-31T on Swiss reg. Came down shortly after take off from Tires. Sadly a fifth person on the ground now declared dead. He was the driver of a lorry making a delivery to Lidl. A witness stated the a/c was climbing out of Tires when there was an explosion and it came straight down.

I wonder why the "Hotel Tango India turn right immediately" TX from the tower? Potential conflict? Did the PA-31 stall as a consequence?

B2N2 18th Apr 2017 22:53

An immediate turn doesn't lead to a stall.
Asymmetric flap situation or incorrect flap setting for take off or engine malfunction or incorrect fuel tank selection can lead to a stall/spin scenario.

At 22 sec in twr instruct "after departure right turn to intercept 330."

According to a witness, shortly after t/o there was an explosion and the a/c veered left and came down. At this point the twr were unaware of the problem and presumably the instruction to "turn right immediately" was because they were enforcing the original departure info. Another a/c then informed twr of the accident.

Fair enough. I thought that a tight turn at fairly low speed immediately after take-off could also lead to a stall/spin scenario. In any case, having just seen the location of the LIDL supermarket, it is clear that the a/c veered to the left (instead of the instructed right turn onto radial 330), hence ATC making that "turn right immediately" TX.

Edit: Tiger4Me you posted as I was typing.

A/C in linked report had reciprocating engines and used avgas fuel. This was a turbine A/C using jet fuel.
