Well, I know what I would say, and it is: This is pretty stupid. There can't have been any compelling reasons for doing this.

Whatever the plan was, it wasn't a surprise to the cameraman standing there ready to film it. The outcome, however, was probably not foreseen.

According to a post on Flyer any injuries were minor.

Was that really a take-off attempt (vs a botched landing)?

If he didn't hit the truck he would have been taken out by the overhead pipe that spans the road. Probably not this guy's greatest piece of decision making. But there is an "up" side; as long as people like this exist the eyes of the authorities are on them and not us.

"I thought it a good idea at the time"

Glad the pilot survived - what a story to tell for a few beers!
