There are plans to ban them from Venice, as the locals hate the sight of them and the swarms of parsimonious visitors they bring. Corruption probably plays a part in the reluctance of the city (god)fathers taking any action to stop their visits. In a city where the tourist numbers are past saturation point, the 5% of visitors they bring is an obvious target if they want to trim numbers. Their contribution to the local economy, per head, is probably close to zero
The passengers, mostly oriental, descend on the city in vast tribes and anyone who gets in their path is battered about the head in a forest of selfie sticks.
Between them and the onslaught of African "looky looky" men, it is hard to imagine you are in an Italian city.
