You certainly need to give 24 hours notice to customs at Cherbourg if coming from U.K. or Channel Islands. Due to not being a part of the Schengen Agreement.
Customs will meet you on arrival and want to see passports and if the aircraft isn't on their data base, the aircraft documents as well
Customs receive all Flight plans and will visit the airfield to meet unannounced arrivals....
