Yes, indeed - but we're not (or weren't) talking about the relatively small number of pilots who revalidate using the 5 hours in 13 months route. That's an additional complication.

As BEagle says above, the FCL.945 privileges apply to other non-EASA UK Licences too, and it is reasonable to apply the same actions in those cases.

I'm sure the pilot and instructor are unlikely to meet any sanctions if they fail to complete an SRG1119E or SRG1157 so long as the other documentation is correctly completed but why not (as instructor) apply a common procedure?

And yes, it is a b*gger's muddle.
