I had forgotten about this thread.

I found my 80 x (100-RH) could be improved slightly by adding 300 ft. Perhaps this reflects mixing of the atmosphere near the surface.

Cloudbase = 300 + 80 x (100-RH) ft

It remains a very approximate formula!
