First, before anyone else says it, "happy Sept. 17th"
Now to the above. Re. the latest form to issue, revalidate or renew a rating, I see that "Medical fitness" has crept in. I have written to L&TS pointing out the following. The form is entitled "Application for ...Class or Type rating", and yet section 3 Medical notes that "your medical certificate must be valid on the licence issue date" etc. This is a self declaration, especially for a "revalidation by experience", and is for a rating , not a licence issue. Re 1178/2011 and AMC/GG, AMC/FCL 740, a medical is not required to revalidate or renew a rating. For those who may think the medical should be in place for a rating revalidation etc, as said before on this forum, there are circumstances where the rating can be revalidated but the pilot not fly because of a temporary medical condition.
The above forms also imply a payment for any rating "transaction". Under EASA any time period outside the revalidation period requires specific training c/o an ATO, and there isn't a 5 year limit after which the paperwork is issued by the CAA.
Finally, re IN_2012/110 (LAPL)para 2.6, "there will no requirement for an independent sign off by an examiner". Does this mean no rating page sign off or simply no form to submit?
PS if CFE or anyone at LGW reads this, can you please re issue the FE handbook ASAP. I have written, e mailed, and 'phoned with only two sensible replies in the last year
