Increasing speed, when you are high on profile works pretty well if you are still relatively far, but whem you get closer to the runway you indeed might want to decrease speed and use speedbrks.
V/S is not a good tool to use to recover high profile. Spd increases and you keep on calculating the required v/s. Go open descend and use your speedbug. Spdbrks are there to safe you f*ckups.
Avoid spdbrks when in dsc mode of v/s when trust is not idle. its useless.
When approaching final approach, concider the flaps and gear.
