there was a chap posting on here a cpl of years ago by the name of dave billings i think an ozzie chap.
he had some evidence and had a theory she turned back towards PNG following the line of flight she had taken and then crashed on New Britain where a wreck was found by the ozzy army in 1945 clearing out the last of the japs from the islands.
the s/n of one of the engines seemingly matched AE's electra plane....
the Ozzie army HQ was informed but did little about it at the time.
veteran soldiers were interviewed (but now dead i think) and had
some confirmation of the find.
the location is known but the area remote and much to this day is uncharted,
also very overgrown now by jungle etc.
the only way to try and locate any metal remains is to use a chopper
with a detector and all of this is very costly.
