Very interesting post. It's good to see someone tell it how it is. I worked for Vietnam airlines in Hanoi for a short period and it's very similar to what you've just described. I couldn't get out of there fast enough. It was bad and they were morons that you couldn't work with on so many levels. I think it's important that pilots thinking of going to these countries have information like this presented to them so at the very least they can make better decisions about a potential move?
Agency's will not tell you the real truth. They want your money. In a lot of cases they probably don't know? They don't do the job or have to live there.
For the same reasons that you have mentioned I would also have to advise anyone thinking of going to Vietnam, in particular to Hanoi and on the B777 fleet to give it a very wide berth.
