ATC may think V/S mode is the greatest thing since sliced bread, but smart pilots know better.
In the old days - we only had a variable pitch control and manual thrust.
We used to dream of having a speed lock with fixed power.
I use VS in the final stages of the climb to prevent it attempting to out perform a Saturn V rocket whilst it chases 3 kts.
