No I didn't forget. Later in the war the Lancaster could carry such a weapon - when he originally had the idea for bombing dams and similar other targets there was no such bomber - IIRC he started design work for a Victory Bomber to carry the weapons he was designing: Victory Bomber - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
