The question here is does SAA employ the affirmative action policy? Well lets see what is affirmative action, as far as I understand it it states that if you have 2 applicants with the SAME qualifications applying for a job then the applicant who satifies the criteria for affirmative action ie age,race gender etc will get the job. I personally don't have a problem with that. However when you have a policy that states that a certain percentage of your workforce must be of a certain age, race gender etc then that is a quota system and has nothing to do with affirmative action. From what I've heard in the past this seems more in line with how SAA ( and probably all other parastatals) have chosen their staff. So as far as I see it the quota system is in force under the guise of affirmative action. Just my take.
