I was Instructing at the School of Refresher Flying in the early '70s and we had to, as part of the syllabus, go up to FL 350 (ish) in the (unpressurised) Jet Provost Mk 4. Try doing that 3 times a day!!
I would point out that we had 25 Courses a year!!
