My local pub - a Wetherspoons one - has a non-smoking corner with bookshelves and the most amazing collection of weird and wonderful literature ever gathered today, with particularly fine medical-type specimens from the 20s and 30s. I've borrowed and read several but kept only one - written by some ancient German female professor of psychology, its called Knowledge of the Female Psyche or something. Absolutely fascinating and totally spot on.
But as for nicking books from the local library, no. The level of fines at mine are around a quid a week these days and, if you don't pay up, they cancel your card.
