Perhaps this thread is dead, but I'll add my 2 cents worth. approx 1 euro cent.

negotiated with DFS for about 3 months, they re'nigged on one or two things after all was signed and sealed and they also wouldn't budge on slotting me into a x number of years equivalent pay scale after validation, and they did pay the trainee wage while training etc etc BUT...and this is a very big but,

they made up all sorts of "allowances" to boost the salary to an "attractive" amount. Now I don't know where the OP (tesox) comes from, I guess its either the US or Australia, but if its the latter, then I know that what the DFS would have offered him to move and train on (let alone) rate on, would have been far in excess of what he earned as the top paid, top seniority ATCO in the land of Down Under. In addition to this, the taxes in Germany are considerably less (that's right I said it) less than Oz.

The cost of schooling would have played a large roll in considering finances as he said 27k euro/year for 2 kids. THis would take his net yearly earnings down to about the same as his oz income from atc.

The initial move and first year does cost a LOT, but if you are willing/wanting to move to europe, then this is the cost, a few thousand bucks to get set up, and a hell of a time training on some scary busy shit.

How does it compare to the UAE? I hear after rent in the UAE you net around 8K euro. This is not substantially better than the pay in DFS and we should all agree where the "happier" place to live would be.
