Sincere condolences to both families, and to the countless friends.
I was at work on Thursday when a colleague came in and broke the news. The stunned silence, "did they get out?", the NOTAM, the looks which greeted the question "any word?", and the passing of time increasing the degree of certainty that the news, when it came, would not be good. Friday morning saw the ensign at half-mast, and the reality began to set in. Hearing the names of those involved left one numb.
Having had the pleasure of meeting Flt Lt Thompson's family, (including Angus), last year, I hope that both they and the family of Flt Lt Morton find the courage and the strength which I fear would abandon me in similar circumstances.
I don't recall who wrote the following, and forgive me for paraphrasing:
They soared like their hopes
to seek and defend,
both men and machine
as one to the end
RIP
