Just one of the many reasons why EK stopped flying there many years ago. The approach to the southern runway (not sure if this approach was the cause) was so dodgy. It required a circling approach procedure turning the aircraft away from the runway towards the north west losing all visual reference then turning back towards the airport, before coming visual again on short finals. We used to do this at night coming in from JNB then continuing onwards to DXB. Maybe us pulling out of Moroni was a good move on the part of the company, in addition to the political issues there as well. Absolute tragedy, and considering Yemenia fly in and out of some really crap places, it says a lot about Moroni. My deepest condolences to the families involved.
