OR Tambo ATC
Controllers at OR Tambo have this annoying ‘clearance’ that I haven’t heard anywhere else in the world. On handover from ground to tower in response to the pilot calling “ready” the tower controller instructs the pilot to “listen out for departure”. Should the pilot fail to read back this ridiculous ‘clearance’ the irate controller often insists on a read back. Surely listening out is always a given. Wouldn’t a more appropriate response simply be to simply greet or just to read back the call sign as they do the world over?
