Title says it all. My question is why? Its almost half a mile long even though the approach is over the sea. Am I missing something here? My roster doesn't usually take me there that often but when it does, I feel like I'm hanging in the air for ages on that runway.

It also got me thinking. What is the longest displaced threshold out there? JFK is pretty long too.
