Solution to Problem: No Airline may operate a revenue flight if any crew member has paid to sit in the airplane in any way.

(A) Many major EU carriers have F/O's first sit in their airliners with 150-250 hours total time. They have no problems with it. It's about quality - not quantity! They have rigorous selection criteria and thoroughly train, supervise and form their candidates to be maximum suitable for the job of F/O on a transport category airplane.

The above scenario is completely different to other (EU) carriers (B) which have people pay by the hour (25.000-40.000 Euros usually) to sit in the right seat for x-hours to gain airliner experience. When the money is spent they are back on the market looking for another job with experience they purchased.

In scenario (A) you will learn and execute throughout your career the fact (be indoctrinated with it) that experience is something you cannot purchase - no matter if you have 150 or 15000 hours total time!

And if you still feel the need to whine about "250 hour wonders" please make sure to differ between the two scenarios!

so long,
J
