As far as I know there are several Spanish Maastricht controllers on PPRuNe, they may be able to give you an answer about the difference in lifestyle (posting on the 'Spanish' part of the forum might trigger a more specific response). Looking out of the window I have to admit the weather could be ... well ... somewhat of an issue ...
