| Snapper, depends on how much time you get there, however I second Andy's opinion re the Hotel Jalta - very modern, funky and in the middle of Wencelas Square, however as it was on the company tab, I can't help you re dollars. As far as having several days I'd give the following as must do in Prague itself: * Ride the trams all through the city to appreciate the architecture and the beauty of the city itself * To get a birds eye view, ride the tram to the bottom of Petrin Hill - catch the incline railway up to the top then climb the tower for a magnificent view ( Prague's version of the Eiffel Tower - minus the height and more importantly, minus the French!) Google it! * Get the tram over the river and up to Prague Castle and wander the grounds of the Castle and the Cathederal * Wander over the Charles Bridge. When over the bridge, on the Castle side of the river, below the bridge on the bank, there are a few rather wonderful alehouses to sit at, watch the river meander by while partaking in some of the world's best pilseners * Visit the Jewish quarter for some of the most amazing preserved buildings - the entire sector is intact and one can sit and drink coffee while sucking up the atmosphere If you have a spare day to venture elsewhere, get the bus out to Terezin - about 1 hour north of Prague. Google this one too. It was a town taken over by the Nazis and used as a camp for Czech Jews before they were sent to the infamous death camps. The entire town has been preserved as a living monument and the camp is a living museum to the past. In all my travels this is would be the most moving, emotional place I have been. Not exactly 'fun' tourism but one of the most powerful places to go. A colleague went to the famous ossuaries at Kutna Hora ( 1 hour east of Prague) and also raved about them. And remember the best beers in the world at comparitively ridiculous prices, and arguably, some of the most beautiful women in the world! Tour ends here............................. |
