Would probably be worth reading this book:-

http://www.amazon.co.uk/Housebuilder.../dp/0952485249

I'll be building my next house myself and am gradually working through the book.

As you are not going to be building in the UK you wouldn't need the latest edition (it's updated with UK building regulation changes which wouldn't apply to you) and the costings wouldn't be right for another country anyway (and older editions are cheaper on ebay), but it's full of practical info about the process of bulding houses and the different options for each item - floors, walls, etc.

The author has a website worth a look. (http://www.markbrinkley.net/) I've heard him give a lecture on self-build and he really knows his stuff.
