Daughter (the large animal vet nurse) had pet rats (though I declined to get involved as I find them 'distasteful', though I could see they were intelligent creatures. Later she acquired a ferret, which I found hilarious (she had a harness and leader and I used to take the ferret for walks around the village). MOST people were fascinated (the ferret was SO inquisitive and friendly) though 'kept' ferrets are notoriously lazy. Hers slept most of the time (and took a liking to curling-up in the washing machine for a snooze whenever he was out of his enclosure).
Playing hide-and-seek and 'tag' with a ferret is GREAT fun!
