jetfueldrinker, as stated by gaspath, the 747-400 with RB211-524-g/ht has an FAFC, with no mechanical linkage to the PAG (pump and govenor) also the TLA is sent via potentiometers on the bottom of the throttles. My interpretation of FADEC is that it appears to be a generic term, in that the whole eng control system is electronic i.e fuel control,bleeds etc, whereas the RR still has pneumatic/mechanical VIGV's and that not all engines are controlled entirely electronically as the 'FADEC' system suggests. I'll have to read up to be more precise in what is and isn't controlled electronically.
