Gofer,
Any chance of a translation of that profile link into English? Could you explain a little more about "Moritz Suter's concept of turntables in Switzerland" for those of us who aren't so familiar with the Apline aviation market?
Ettore,
I have taken the rail route you mentioned from ZRH to Interlaken. I must be one of the few people to have been on a Swiss train which was late!
However, my reference was to the journey time, not the cost, hence the relevance of having this route served from LCY, not somewhere like STN or LTN.
This route will appeal to the business / government official market, where even 1 hour is a very long transfer time from airport to city centre.
Both GVA and ZRH are on the other sides of the cities they serve, as far as BRN is concerned. Even if the train is direct, it must still load and unload in the main terminus before continuing on.
Berne's station is on the edge of the city, not bang in the middle of it. Taxis may be expensive, but from ZRH or GVA they would be even more expensive, and time consuming.
Berne may not have the international organisations or finance centres of GVA or ZRH, but it is still one of the most underserved capital cities anywhere in the world.
