the ventral fin was indeed an afterthought. there have been a couple of instances where recovery from an upright flat spin was impossible and people died...following those accidents the spin characteristics of the P3 were intensively researched, however without success. it could never be ascertained what circumstances had caused the accidents. to avoid the possibility of this ever reoccurring it was decided that all P3 had to be fitted with a ventral fin. happy flying from then on !!
