Always puzzled me the noble conker trees reproductive strategy, must take a huge amount of the trees energy budget producing all those nuts that simply seem to lie about under the tree, or leastwise did until Australopithecines wandered out of Africa bringing along their conker playing cubs.
You would think the conker would have at least been edible, that is the usual ploy with nuts int it?they are designed to be eaten pass thru the gut and be deposited well away from the parent along with a small pile of fertilizer just to kick start the seed on its journey to treedom.
One did find a conker with a green shoot emerging from it once, one took it home and lovingly planted it on a temporary basis in on of me sis in laws flower boxes, lovingly took care of it forra month, but returned to find if not there one day, sis in law explains she pulled that weed and threw it our, ****!!!!!.
Every body should plant a tree during their lifetime, a fine horse chestnut would have suited me fine.
